Introduction

Lansweeper is a tool that can collect information related to computer software, hardware, and asset management in the Windows network. Its function is similar to Microsoft's SMS (now the latest version is called SCOM 2007), but unlike Microsoft products, it is free, takes up less resources, and does not embed any advertisements.

At the same time, there is no need to install the client, and all information collection relies entirely on the use of WMI filters, file sharing, and remote registry access.

There is no requirement for the number of clients when using Lansweeper. A server can handle 10000 clients (depending on the performance of your server).

二、 Characteristics

a) Automatically collect information from Windows clients.

b) There is no need to install the client on the client machine.

c) Query and store registry information for the specific location of the client you specify.

d) Find unknown programs, spyware, and interceptors running on internal computers within the company.

e) Collect the required information using a combination of web console and custom query methods.

f) Perfect integration with the active directory.

g) All the information collected by Lansweeper is stored in a database within SQL, allowing for relevant processing and processing of the data.

h) It is particularly worth mentioning that Lansweeper, unlike other commercial software, requires purchasing based on the number of licenses, and the only consideration is the performance and network bandwidth of your server. At the same time, you can use free database support software such as MSDN and SQL Express, and generate the required reports based on the query results you need to enhance the program's capabilities.

三、 Comparison with other similar software

a) Other similar programs require the installation of the client.

b) You need to specify a time interval to trigger or schedule the scan.

c) General programs take longer to scan.

d) Unable to collect the information you want.

e) Unable to scan to the specified folder or registry key.

四、Installation prerequisites

a) Server side: It can be installed in Windows 2000 or higher Windows systems and requires support from IIS and the. NET 2.0 framework.

SQL Server 2000 or 2005 (recommended) must be installed. If you find SQL 2005 bulky, you can install the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition version with SQL Server Management Studio Express, which is around 50MB and is also free, which can also meet the requirements of Lansweeper.

b) Client side: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 2000, 2003, 2008 server, does not support Windows 9x systems.

c) It can be a domain environment, but it is not necessary. I have installed it under XP before, but the client has to manually execute the batch processing sent to run it.
