Introduction

MemoQ is a CAT software developed by Kilgray Company in Hungary that can run on Microsoft Windows. MemoQ integrates functions such as computer-aided translation, Machine translation and translation management, and also has a powerful integrated translation environment. MemoQ has many core function settings, such as translation editor, Translation memory library, translation terminology library, LiveDocs corpus, etc. In memoQ, translation activities are carried out in the form of projects. Each translation project is usually composed of translation files, Translation memory library, term library and related settings. Through project-based operation, memoQ helps translators improve the efficiency of translation production, efficiently retrieve information, conveniently manage terms, and quickly complete quality inspection, thereby significantly improving the translation efficiency of translators.

2. Tutorial on Graphic and Text

After installing memoQ and related plugins, start memoQ. The system defaults to the English interface. For better experience and learning, we can first set the software interface to Chinese: click on the setting icon in the upper left corner to enter the options interface, select the "Appearance" tab of the second item, change the User interface language to Chinese, then close the software and reopen it。

2.1 New Translation Project

Click "New Project" in the menu bar's New Project drop-down box, or directly click "New Project (No Template)" on the right side of the page to enter the New Project interface. Enter the project name, select the corresponding source and target languages, then fill in the details according to your own needs, and then click Next。

After creating a new project, we can choose to pull in or import the translation document according to the system prompts, as shown in the following figure. After importing the document, click Next, and the user can create the Translation memory database of the project. Click "New/Use New", enter the name and select the source language and target language. At this point, if the user has downloaded a memory file in TMX format, they can directly click to import the memory file; If we do not have a memory or corpus file, we can align the corpus and create a memory or terminology file on the tmxmall website or download Aligner in advance. It should be noted that the user can create multiple Translation memory databases at the same time, and select multiple and enable importing tmx/csv files at the same time to add corpus in the memory。

After creating the Translation memory library, click Next and create the term library according to the prompts. Similarly, click on "New/Use New" and enter a name and check the language to be added in reverse. After completing these three parts, you can enter the main page, double-click on the translated document, and directly enter the translation interface to start the next translation work。

2.2 Use of editors

After creating the translation project, we will see the following interface, including a toolbar, project list, menu bar, and translation area. In the toolbar, we can create, import, and edit projects. In the project list, users can choose multiple project modeling and file import modes, and can view news and information published on the official website. Double click on the item in the project list to enter the translation interface for text translation.

The translation area of the translation interface is similar to Trados, and the memoQ editor also divides articles into sentences for translation. In the editor, you can see that after each sentence is translated, you can press "Ctrl+Enter" to confirm. The translated sentence has been saved and written into the created memory. The Translation memory in memoQ is displayed in the same box as the term base, and each memory entry and term base entry has its corresponding label, so that the memory technology corpus can be inserted into the translation box. Before translation, the preview layout will display the original text. When translating the current sentence, a red border will appear. After the translation is completed, the original text in the panel will be automatically replaced by the translation。

2.3 Featured features LiveDocs

Like the principle of adding a Translation memory database, LiveDocs also creates a document corpus and adds some documents to reference the translation. But the difference is that LiveDocs can not only add aligned documents, but also add monolingual documents, misaligned bilingual documents, and so on. Users can add monolingual text that is similar to the translated content to LiveDocs, and use the content in the single document in word retrieval to process the expression of the translation, making the translation more authentic. Different double document files refer to bilingual sentence pairs that have not been aligned yet, compared with the Translation memory database。

After entering a new project, click on "LiveDocs" on the left, click on "New/Use New" on the top left, create a corpus, enter the corpus name, and click OK. After importing the document, select "Word Search" in the translation area, enter the sentence you want to query, and then proceed with corpus search。
