Introduction

SUSE is a global enterprise level open source solution provider focused on enterprise level Linux, enterprise container management, and edge solutions. By collaborating with partners and communities, SUSE helps customers innovate anytime, anywhere, in any scenario - whether in data centers, clouds, or edge environments. SUSE has reopened "open source", enabling customers to meet innovation challenges and develop their IT strategies and solutions in the future.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

SUSE products cover three major technical fields: enterprise Linux operating system, enterprise container management platform, and edge computing solutions.

Enterprise Linux operating system

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES)

An operating system that can adapt to any environment, allowing developers and administrators to deploy task critical workloads locally, in the cloud, and at the edge, and is specifically optimized for performance, security, and reliability.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) for SAP Applications

The Linux platform suitable for SAP HANA, S/4HANA, and SAP NetWeaver solutions can reduce downtime, achieve automated maintenance, and faster deployment of SAP environments locally or in the cloud.

Enterprise level container management

Rancher

Rancher is an open-source enterprise level Kubernetes management platform that enables centralized deployment and management of Kubernetes clusters in hybrid clouds and local data centers. Rancher has over 300 million core image downloads worldwide and has 40000 corporate customers.

NeuVector

An end-to-end open source container security platform that provides enterprise level zero trust security solutions for containerized workloads. NeuVector is committed to ensuring the security of enterprise level container platforms, providing real-time and in-depth container network visualization, east-west container network monitoring, active isolation and protection, container host security, and container internal security. The container management platform seamlessly integrates and automates application level container security, suitable for various cloud environments, cross cloud or local deployment container production environments.

Harvester

A next-generation open-source hyperaggregation infrastructure solution designed specifically for modern cloud native environments, aimed at helping operators integrate and simplify the virtual machine workload of Kubernetes clusters.

Edge computing solutions

SUSE Edge

SUSE Edge has created a comprehensive cloud native edge management solution and seamlessly integrates security policies across the entire stack, from applications to Kubernetes to operating systems. SUSE can provide edge solutions that fully meet customer needs based on different use cases, whether it is a universal edge scenario or various edge scenarios that require additional functionality such as telecommunications and automobiles.

The SUSE Edge solution combines multiple innovative features of Rancher, SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) Micro, and SUSE NeuVector into a highly secure, integrated, and scalable platform that can simplify, centralize, and automate the lifecycle of Kubernetes and Linux operating systems through a distributed edge environment.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Micro (SLE Micro)

A lightweight operating system tailored for containerized workloads in edge environments. It is safe, reliable, maintenance-free, and can automate simple and important edge device management tasks such as updates, rollback, and recovery; It consumes very little resources and can ensure longer battery life of the device. Developers can also quickly complete testing and programming based on SLE Micro, building various applications covering various fields such as wearable devices, smart cities, transportation, etc.

Version characteristics

SUSE makes it easy for administrators to manage Linux servers

The SUSE integrated management interface is not just software. SUSE allows administrators to configure components without the need for in-depth research. SUSE can configure and manage all components that are needed or not needed.

SUSE has a comprehensive management program control panel, which is important. Administrators can easily obtain new software through SUSE's comprehensive management tool panel.

The use case of SUSE is in a mixed server operating system environment, where the administrator management system only has a superficial understanding of UNIX and Linux programming.

SUSE Linux's YaST can cross work with the command line, and SUSE can complement each other. Therefore, it is customary to use SUSE programming command line to manage servers, which can also achieve the corresponding effect.

In early versions of SUSE, SUSE could corrupt some manually created configurations. Early Linux administrators had this experience: SUSE damaged the management of a large number of manually created configurations. However, the configuration changes of SUSE already have a complete alarm mechanism, and administrators can use SUSE with confidence.

In the recent SUSE version, SUSE automatically backs up configuration files and displays manually modified configurations. SUSE's mechanism ensures maximum risk of configuration loss

SUSE improvements

Even for experienced Linux administrators, SUSE is a user-friendly tool that achieves twice the result with half the effort. Some SUSE services, including multiple SUSE configuration files, need to be bundled together. Administrators do not need to identify which SUSE configuration files are available, as SUSE provides a universal interface for modifying all relevant files, as shown in Figure 1. This allows administrators to easily configure complex SUSE configuration files.

Using SUSE does not mean that administrators must run SUSE in graphical window mode. Although SUSE has a reliable graphical window version. SUSE and no graphics window mode are 100% compatible, which is not a problem for SUSE remote servers. Moreover, SUSE uses standard SSH protocols and can be remotely managed through standard SSH tools such as SecureCRT and Putty.
